Now we are back to fairly regular golf at our clubs, the weather has become a little more variable - from extremely hot to wet and windy, with a bit of thunder and lightning thrown into the pot as well. I hope you are still able to get out onto the course, whilst we still have some nice long days.

We held the County Junior and Seniors championships at Harleyford Golf Club last Sunday 16th August. We had a good turn out and the weather stayed dry for us. The scores were excellent. Congratulations to:
* Roisin Scanlon (Woburn) who won the U15 and U13 cups and was the overall Junior champion with a gross 73.
* Grace Rigby-Walden (GXGC) who was runner up with gross 74
* Lily Rigby-Walden (GXGC) who won the nett prize with a nett 69.
* Denise Goodacre (Burnham Beeches) who was the overall Senior champion with a gross 79
* Lynn Fitzpatrick (Burnham Beeches) who was runner up with a gross 80
* Nerys McGuinness (Harleyford) who won the nett prize with a nett 71

The Executive Committee had a virtual meeting using Zoom earlier this week and came to the following conclusions:

• 3rd October - Inter club foursomes will not take place this year.
• Entries are being taken for the Winter Foursomes Knockout and the Winter League. We will review the arrangements for the Winter league when we know how many clubs want to enter a team. Closing date for the knockout is 15th September and for the Winter League is 31st August. Entry forms are on the website.
• The Executive will issue some rules and guidance based on England Golf guidance for the safe playing of County competitions under Covid-19 restrictions.

We will be having the next Delegates meeting by ZOOM on Monday 7th September. Maura Spencer is in touch with Delegates and we are happy to have an advance trial Zoom meeting with anyone who is unfamiliar with using Zoom. Items for the meeting will include the revised Constitution, an update on the World Handicapping System (which is on target for early November) and winter competitions.

A few results have come in from the England Golf elite competitions:

* Thalia Kirby had a splendid performance in the English Womens Amateur Championship, coming first in the two round strokeplay event and then narrowly losing in the semifinals of the match play to the eventual winner. The event was played over some of the hottest days of the year and Thalia is to be congratulated for her stamina as well as her technical performance. England Women's senior stroke play championships. Megan Dennis and Grace Rigby-Walden also took part and Megan reached the last 16 match play.

* Several Seniors braved extremely hot weather on Tuesday 11th to Thursday 13th August to play in the England Golf Women's Seniors Championship at Frilford Heath. Susanna Mitterer was our best placed senior in the main scratch competition (finished 21st out of 58 players). The handicap event is usually over 2 rounds but was reduced to a single round due to the extreme weather - Andrea Sims of Burnham Beeches was second with a nett +1 score and Cathy Armstrong was 8th with nett +4.

* The England Golf Women's Strokeplay Championship took place earlier this week at Burnham and Berrow. This time the competition was hampered by very wet and windy weather conditions. We had 8 players in the starting line-up of 144 players: Thalia Kirby ended up our best placed player who ended up Tied 11th place with a gross +4 (after 4 rounds); Megan Dennis was Tied 22nd with a gross +9.

* Roisin Scanlon played in the Ladies Rose series event at The Shire recently and had a very respectable T23 finish (out of 60 starters). She birdied the first and there is a short interview that Sky did with her on Twitter.

Next week is the England Golf Under 14/Under 16 championships which are being played at Sandy Lodge. We have 10 girls entered for this competition. The entries are oversubscribed at the moment, but hopefully all 10 will get a place; we send Daisy Kennedy, Amelia Curtis, Olivia Lee, Grace Rigby-Walden, Rosie Bee Kim, Rachel McKinlay, Jess Pilgrim, Ella Butteriss, Ciara Egan and Roisin Scanlon our best wishes. Unfortunately no spectators are allowed so we will not be able to go to Sandy Lodge in person, but we will follow their progress on the Live Leaderboard.

Also next week is the R&A Women's Amateur Strokeplay championship which is being held at West Lancashire Golf club. We have 2 players listed in the start sheet, Thalia Kirby and Rosie Bee Kim. We wish them both every success. The eagle eyed will have noticed that Rosie is entered for both next week's competitions; we await news of which she will actually play in.

Finally can I put out a request for anyone who might be interested in the Hon Secretary role to contact Maura Spencer as soon as possible. Maura finishes in the role at the next AGM and we are very keen to find her replacement in plenty of time for a good handover.

Please remain vigilant in your Covid-19 safety precautions at your golf course and off it. Stay safe and well.
